Asamoah Gyan, who is popularly known as ‘Baby Jet’ is a semi-retired Ghanaian professional football player. Gyan has been hailed as one of the best football players to come out of Ghana and Africa as a whole. He reached a landmark of 51 international goals for the Ghana national team and has received several awards and trophies during his football career outside of Ghana.
Gyan started his football career with the Ghanaian local side, Liberty Professionals in 2003. He was then signed by the Italian side Udinese that very year. After arriving in Udine, he was sent on loan to Serie B side, Modena, for two years where he gained some experience in European football. Following some display of quality at the 2006 world cup for Ghana, he was scouted by the Russian side, Lokomotiv Moscow. Gyan however later signed for the French side, Stade Rennais on a 4-year contract where he made 48 appearances and scored 14 times. He became quite popular around this time for his goal-scoring abilities. Gyan later left France and arrived in England after he signed for the English premier league side, Sunderland AFC. After some goal-scoring exploits for the English side over a year, Gyan moved on again to the UAE where he played for Al Ain. He would later join Shanghai SIPG in China.
Asamoah Gyan is the all-time top goal scorer of the Ghana national team with 51 goals. He has the fastest goal in the world cup, a goal he scored after 68 seconds. He also famously missed a penalty that would have sent Ghana to the quarter-finals of the 2010 world cup had he scored it, thereby making history in the process.
Born in 1985 in Accra, which is the capital city of Ghana, the striker is now 36 years old. Asamoah Gyan is the younger brother of Baffour Gyan who is also a former professional football player.
