Nadia Nakai Biography
Nakai grew up in South Africa. Her father is from South Africa and her mother is from Zimbabwe. Her surname was changed from her father’s to her mother’s when she was 16 years old.
Nakai attended Fourways High School in Johannesburg for a year before continuing her education in Kenya. She went on to study marketing, communication, and media studies at Monash University in Johannesburg.

Nadia Nakai Kandava is a Zimbabwean rapper and television personality who was born in South Africa. Nakai made her television debut on the e.tv hip hop show Shiz Niz, where she won the Mixtape 101 competition, becoming the first female to do so. She rose to prominence after releasing her debut single “Like Me” in September 2013. The following year, she was featured on various acts’ remixes of Riky Rick’s song, Amantombazane. In June 2015, Nakai released her third single, “Saka Wena,” which featured rapper Ice Prince, and followed her second single, “Whatever,” which featured DotCom and Psyfo.
Nakai hosted the first season of Channel O’s Gen-Z South Africa in 2021. She left Family Tree Records in June 2021 to start her own label. Nakai was nominated for Artist of the Decade at the 2021 South African Hip Hop Awards.
Nakai appeared on the Netflix original reality show Young, Famous, and African in 2022. Nakai was inspired by Nazizi, a female Kenyan rapper she met while visiting Kenya. She stated that Nazizi influenced her decision to begin rapping.

Nakai and Major League’s Bandile Mbere dated in 2021 but split up the following year.
Because of their close proximity, there was also speculation that the rapper was in a relationship with Cassper Nyovest.
