Naughty Boy Biography
Shahid Khan was born in Watford, Hertfordshire on January 1, 1981. His parents being originally from Pakistan, and explaining the importance of his Pakistani identity, having also been in a school near Rawalpindi for two years, he says that he grew up listening to Pakistani music and watching Pakistani movies more than being influenced by Western culture, admiring the likes of Sultan Rahi and Mustafa Qureshi, ultimately professing that “I am a very proud Pakistani and I celebrate that”. Khan attended Westfield Academy in Watford and initially studied Business and Marketing at London Guildhall University (now London Metropolitan University), but dropped out during his first semester and worked at Domino’s Pizza and Watford General Hospital.
Naughty Boy Career
Shahid Khan is a British DJ, record producer, songwriter, and musician better known by his stage name Naughty Boy. Khan signed a three-year publishing deal with Sony ATV in 2012, as well as a recording contract with Virgin EMI Records for one album. Khan began his career as a record producer under the alias “Naughty Boy,” and he now runs his own production company, Naughty Boy Recordings.
He has produced two records for Chipmunk and Wiley, both of which feature Emeli Sandé. Naughty Boy and Sandé later collaborated on writing and production, which led to Sandé securing her own record deal with Virgin and EMI. Sandé went on to win the Critics’ Choice Award at the 2012 BRIT Awards and release her debut album Our Version of Events (2012), which she co-wrote and produced with Naughty Boy. The producer made his debut in the music industry in 2009, co-writing and producing Chipmunk’s hit single “Diamond Rings,” which featured Emeli Sandé. Khan collaborated with Sandé once more, this time on Wiley’s “Never Be Your Woman” (2010), a cover of White Town’s “Your Woman” (1997). Sandé later signed with Virgin Records, and Khan co-wrote and produced her debut album, Our Version of Events. Naughty Boy was cast as a contestant on the twenty-first season of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! in 2021. Despite multiple threats to leave and frequent arguments with campmates, he survived for 16 days before being eliminated on December 8, 2021.
Naughty Boy Personal Life
Naughty Boy’s mother was diagnosed with dementia in 2017, and he has openly discussed using music as therapy to help his mother cope. In 2020, he became an ambassador for the Dementia UK charity. He explained his decision to join by saying “I’m thrilled to be a Dementia UK ambassador, and I hope to use my platform to raise awareness of the cause and the charity. With my mother’s ever-changing condition and the strains it puts on the rest of the family, I can see how an Admiral Nurse would be useful.”
Naughty Boy has also campaigned with Watford residents to rename the Atria Shopping Centre “The Harlequin” after its original name.
