Nina Hoss Biography
Hoss was born in the West German city of Stuttgart. Willi Hoss [de], her father, was a German trade unionist and politician (member of the Bundestag with The Greens). Her mother, Heidemarie Rohweder [de], was an actor at Stuttgart National Theatre and afterwards the director of the Württembergische Landesbühne Esslingen in Esslingen.

Nina Hoss is a theater and film actress from Germany. Hoss began acting in radio plays at the age of seven and had his theatrical debut at the age of fourteen.
Hoss graduated from Berlin’s Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1997. Her first major success came in 1996 with the title role of Rosemarie Nitribitt in Bernd Eichinger’s A Girl Called Rosemary, a period drama (based on an actual scandal) set in the 1950s that looks back on the days of West Germany’s postwar Wirtschaftswunder with “curdling cynicism,” according to a New York Times review. From 1998 to 2013, Hoss was an ensemble member of Berlin’s Deutsches Theater, where she played Medea and Franziska in Minna von Barnhelm (2005). In 2004 and 2010, Hoss served as an Alliance 90/Greens delegate to the Federal Convention for the purpose of choosing the President of Germany.

Hoss married British music producer Alex Silva in 2015 following a 12-year relationship with him. They do not have any children.
Hoss has won various official accolades, including the Federal Republic of Germany’s Order of Merit (2013) and the French Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (2015).
