Sulley Muntari, full name, Sulleyman Ali Muntari, is a Ghanaian professional football player who plays mainly as a central midfielder. Sulley Muntari is one of the few players from Ghana to have played for some of the big teams in Europe.
Sulley Muntari started his professional career with the local Ghanaian side, Liberty Professionals. His potential was seen while he was with the youth team of the club. He then went on to become part of the under-20 team of Ghana and played at the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship which was held in Argentina. Muntari had a successful trial with English giants, Manchester United. However, the midfielder later signed for the Italian club, Udinese where he appeared 127 times and scored 8 goals in the process from 2002 to 2007. Muntari was then transferred to the English club, Portsmouth where he appeared 29 times and scored 4 goals.
Muntari was then signed by Italian giants, Inter Milan between 2008 and 2012. He made 66 appearances for the Nerazzurri and scored 7 goals. At Inter Milan, Muntari won the UEFA champions league and two Serie A titles. He was sent on loan back to England where he played for Sunderland AFC.
Muntari was then signed by AC Milan in 2012 and played for the Italian side until 2015. He made 18 appearances and scored 2 goals for AC Milan. Muntari has also played for Spanish side, Delphino Pescara and Deportivo La Coruna. He currently plays for the local Ghanaian club, Accra Hearts of Oak.
Muntari has appeared over 80 times for the Ghana national team at two African Cup of Nations tournaments and three FIFA world cup tournaments. He scored a long-range stunner in the 2010 World Cup held in South Africa that could have propelled Ghana into the semi-finals of the world for the first time in history.
One of Muntari’s crucial assets as a footballer is his long-range shot accuracy and shot power. He has one of the most accurate long-range shots in football with the majority of such shots going directly towards goal. The majority of his goals in his professional career have been from long-range strikes outside of the 18-yard box. Apart from this, he is also a good midfielder with strength and tackling skills.
Born in 1984 in Ghana, Muntari is now 37 years old.
With all these skills and midfield ability, Muntari has become one of the richest African players in the world of football. The midfielder has an estimated net worth of $22 million. This makes him one of the richest football players in Ghana behind Michael Essien and Asamoah Gyan. Having played for two of the biggest teams in Italy certainly had an effect on his bank balance over the years.
Not much is known about the investments made by Sulley Muntari. The midfielder is not one to talk about his private life. However, he owned an auto shop in Italy where cars were customized and serviced. The company is known as 4FKMotorsport.
Being one of the richest players in Africa certainly has its perks. Muntari owns an enviable collection of vehicles such as a Ferrari, an Escalade, a Lamborghini Aventador and Gallardo, a vintage Chevrolet vehicle, a Mercedes Benz 6×6 and many more. We are sure that he owns several more vehicles in his garage since he owns an auto customization shop.
He also owns several mansions in Ghana.
Muntari is married to Menaye Muntari and the couple has two children together. Muntari also has a younger brother, Sulley Muniru, who is also a professional football player.
