Zazie Beetz Biography
Zazie Olivia Beetz was born in Berlin in 1991. Her father is a German cabinet manufacturer who came to the United States in 1990, following the fall of the Berlin Wall, and her mother is an African-American social worker from New York. Her parents divorced when she was very young.
Beetz attended pre-school in Berlin and kindergarten in New York City before relocating there permanently with her family at the age of eight, speaking both German and English at home. She graduated from LaGuardia Arts High School in 2009 and went on to Skidmore College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in French in 2013. She lived in Paris for a year.
Beetz spent a year “broke and serving tables” after graduating from college before being cast in Atlanta.

Beetz’s cinematic credits include the catastrophe drama Geostorm (2017), the Marvel Comics character Domino in the superhero film Deadpool 2 (2018), and Arthur Fleck/neighbor Joker’s Sophie in the psychological thriller Joker (2019). Beetz was nominated for an Emmy in 2018 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on FX’s Atlanta.

Beetz is engaged to actor and writer David Rysdahl. They met during an acting workshop in 2014 and have been dating ever since. They established the Sleepy Poppy producing firm.
