James Packer, the son of philanthropist Roslyn (née Weedon) and media billionaire Kerry Packer, was born in Sydney. Sir Frank Packer, the media magnate, was his grandpa.
Packer attended Cranbrook School in Sydney’s Bellevue Hill. After completing his Higher School Certificate (HSC) at Cranbrook, he began working as a jackeroo on his father’s vast Newcastle Waters cattle station in the Barkly Tableland in the Northern Territory. Packer remarked that he did not attend university because he “didn’t have the grades.”
